Sakhalin II Project

sakhalin

Sakhalin Energy Investment Company is the operator of the Sakhalin II project under a Production Sharing Agreement with the Russian Federation. The company was formed in 1994 to develop the Piltun-Astokhskoye oil field and the Lunskoye gas field in the Sea of Okhotsk offshore Sakhalin Island in the Russian Far East. The Sakhalin II project’s main export is Liquified natural gas (LNG).

The Sakhalin II project called for a solution provider that was able to design, install and configure a real time database solution for use within the Sakhalin II project’s distributed landscape; where some assets providing production data are +600km away.

We have successfully installed 14x OPCDA Interfaces configured for hot failover and collecting data for more than 90000 tags.  Virtually limitless (by disk only) buffering capability was installed on the interface nodes.  A monitoring package based on PI Processbook was provided to simplify the monitoring process of system operations by the System custodian \ Super users of the system.

Overview of the PI System:

1x Data Historian (OSiSoft PI Server)

14x OPCDA Interfaces (OSiSoft OPCInt)

14xOPCAE Interfaces (OSiSoft PIOPCAE)

1x Advanced calculation server based on Visual Studio 2005 (OSiSoft PI-ACE)

1x Reporting server (OSiSoft RtReports)

1x Web server based on Windows Sharepoint services 3 (OSiSoft RtWebParts)

Client applications include OSiSoft’s PI Processbook and PI-Datalink.

Support activities:

System manager level II PI Maintenance, continuous data and tag management improvement activities and around 15 other user support queries per week.

Development activities:

Complete process visualisation packages (PI Processbook) have been developed for three assets.  An environmental reporting system has been developed for all of the assets, meaning:

  • Calculations defined within PIACE
  • Reports defined within RtReports

PI System monitoring package based on PI Processbook that covers the entire PI System scope.

An Alarms management reporting system that is based on data from the PIOPCAE interfaces.  All the calculations are done in PIACE and report presentation is done within Microsoft Excel.
