Ministry of Fisherie Health - Muscat, Sultanate of Oman

The Ministry of Fisheries Health in Muscat is responsible for the Quality Control of the export of fish related products from Oman. A need existed to automate, integrate and optimize the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). This need was met by moving as much of the current paper based system as possible in Perkin Elmer Labworks. The LIMS must be available to key laboratory personnel via the intranet infrastructure and external clients via the Internet or VPN.

The solution consists of an Application server running Labworks Ver 6.1, a SQL server running SQL Server 2005 and a custom application to streamline the logging of samples as dictated by their requirements. Individual on the job training will be supplied to the different laboratory divisions to make the transition for the paper-based system to Labworks as seamless as possible.

The following items are seen as in-scope for this project:

  • Management of the Inspection Process
  • Sample Request Process
  • Sample Login Process
  • Sample Result Validation
  • Instrument Interfacing to Labworks
  • Sample Invoicing and Billing
  • Sample Reporting and COA
  • Data Archiving
  • Instrument and Analyst assignment
  • Supplier QC certification
  • Bar coding using Bartender
  • Implementation of Labworks Inventory Module

With this solution all data sources are communicated/captured to LIMS. The visualization is built using the Labworks Process Scheduler and the Labworks Explorer.
